Theo Engines

Every Theo engine powering the product, grouped by what it does — and, under each one, the lab model Theo orchestrates for it. Theo is the orchestrator: it routes each step of a request to the best engine for the job and switches automatically when one is slow or unavailable. This page is generated directly from the model catalog — when a new engine is added, it appears here automatically.

Choose Your Engines

Theo decides which engine runs each job by default, and you can have a say. During onboarding (and any time in Settings → Theo Engines) you pick an engine policy: Let Theo orchestrate (recommended — the routing on this page), Economy (quick answers run on the cheapest open-weight engine to stretch your credits), or One engine for everything (pick a single lab engine and every chat runs on it first).

Your pick never removes Theo’s safety net: the usual engines stay on standby behind your engine, Image and Consensus keep Theo’s own routing, and a turn your engine can’t serve (a photo on an engine that can’t see images, a Code build on an engine without a large context) falls through to Theo’s usual engine — the orchestration trace always shows what actually ran, labelled “your engine” when it was your pick.

When New Engines Arrive

Whenever a research lab ships a new frontier model, OpenCharts onboards it through the unified model catalog. A new engine lands as a single catalog entry with its capabilities, Theo-branded display name, and rollout gate — and then automatically shows up here, in the engine selectors, and in the consensus panel.

Every engine keeps a stable Theo identity (e.g. Theo Photo, Theo Explore) even when the lab model behind it is upgraded — and Theo always shows its work. Each card here names the lab model behind the tier, and in chat the orchestration trace shows which engine handled each step of your request (“Theo → model”), with an info button explaining what Theo was doing.
